Installing and uninstalling silently

Updating

The new setup recognises the existing installation from HKLM\Software\Invoiceflair\Portal, skips the network and email pages, and prefills the data directory with the previous path.

An installation from the Docuflair era is not recognised as a predecessor

The move to Invoiceflair changed both the setup identity and the registry key. The new installer therefore does not find an existing installation under Software\Docuflair\Invoice — it installs alongside it, not over it.

One-off procedure in that case:

1. Back up the data directory. Its path is in the value DataPath under the old key HKLM\Software\Docuflair\Invoice.
2. Uninstall the old installation without /REMOVEDATA, answering “no” when asked about the data.
3. Run the new setup and point it at the same data directory.

From this release on the setup identity stays put; updates run exactly as described above.

Left untouched are:

• appsettings.Production.json
• the data directory
• keys\, usage\, .aspnet\ and logs\

Only the program files are replaced. The database schema migrates automatically on first start — embedded migrations that are applied exactly once, tracked through a schema_version table.

An update therefore needs no preparation

Run the setup and you are done. A backup beforehand is still advisable — see Data and backup.

Uninstalling

The uninstaller stops and removes the service, deletes the firewall rules and the program directory — and then asks explicitly whether the data should be deleted as well (default: no).

In silent mode the data is retained unless /REMOVEDATA is set.

The question only covers the data directory

keys\, usage\, .aspnet\ and logs\ sit in the program directory and fall with it. Anyone wanting to keep them — the usage log or the API keys, for instance — backs them up before uninstalling. Which folder holds what is set out under Data and backup.
